Introduction

Kolkata handles a population way beyond its infrastructure capacity. Although the drainage system has become much better in the last few years, still a lot needs to be done, before we achieve something remarkable. A positive step taken by the Govt is ban on plastic and waste renewal stations for producing energy.

KOLKATA – MOST IMPORTANT METROPOLITAN IN EASTERN REGION

Kolkata is mainly important, since it acts as a one stop solution for people living in surrounding states of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Whether for studies, medical facilities, shopping or otherwise Kolkata is the nearest metro city for all those above mentioned States. If people staying here permanently or even those migrating from other places, collectively become more cautious, the city can see a makeover. Another thing to remember is that not all places are dirty. Most places are clean. Exceptions do exist in every city. With the people and Govt being a bit more cautious, a lot improvement can be expected.

WHY CITIES GET DIRTY

Main constraint being availability of water. In Kolkata this factor is not a constraint. Kolkata has abundant supply of water all through the years because of river Ganga and its proximity to coastal areas, make water availability constant. However, flushing into the water bodies is a dangerous thing. Although significantly reduced with the help of stricter laws and specialized machines for river cleaning, yet the damage already faced, will take time for recovery. Maximum damage has been caused to the aquatic habitat – flora and fauna. Specialized water bodies with specific treatments for breeding of fauna have been made in Kolkata so as to reduce the ill effects of population and pollution on aquatic animals.

LOCAL SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES

Local small scale industries such as potters, dhobis, weavers etc, previously used the river water on a large scale for their trading purposes, most of which have come to an end with Govt intervention.  Most dhobis, potters, weavers and such other primary sector industries , no longer depend on river water or believe in exploitation of natural resource, for their livelihood, and mostly do it by making their own infrastructure. With the advent of online stores, most of their products are outsourced and even displayed online without even the hassle of bringing them to marketplace.

Summary

We depend wholly on nature and natural products. Hence we should always try to preserve and conserve our natural resources. Switch over to e services wherever possible. With Fabycare coming up in Kolkata, laundry services are available at doorstep anytime, anywhere. Weavers directly handover their products to distributors or super-stockists who in turn handover the products to dealers, thereby reducing the hassle for both the weavers, and customers who wish to purchase their design.
